Chris and Martine’s snowy Leavenworth elopement was what winter wonderland dreams are made of. When they reached out to us, they had just moved to Washington from California a few months ago, and were so excited to get married by exploring a new corner of their home state with their families and two best friends.
Typically, couples book us before they know exactly where they want to get married, which can come as a surprise for people who have only thought about planning a traditional wedding, where usually the first step is to pick a venue before starting to plan anything else. Elopements are SO different! A huge part of what we provide as elopement experts is planning guidance. When they inquired, Chris and Martine knew they wanted a winter wedding in January or February, and that they wanted to get married somewhere in Washington…and we took it from there!
Once couples book us, we send them a questionnaire that gathers a bunch of details from our couple about what they’re looking for with their elopement day. Here’s what Chris and Martine had to say about their vision when we started the planning process:
“Wake up, get some coffee, maybe hike to a fun location for some cozy coffee and sweater pictures. Come back, get ready for the ceremony, meet up with our family. We do not have a specific location in mind, however near some sort of body of water, whether in the forest or with the mountains around us. (We know it will be cold and are flexible with the location due to weather!) Ideally dependent on where we are going to be, we will rent a cabin or cozy air B&B to get ready in. Chris and I do not mind hiking for some great pictures and we would love some unique ones, however, for the ceremony it will need to be somewhere more easily accessible for his parents.”
After a customized location proposal from us and a trip out to visit the town, they decided on Leavenworth for their elopement, and it could not have been more perfect for them.
We kicked off Chris and Martine’s elopement day by meeting them in the cabins they had rented to document them getting ready. We then headed out with their families and two best friends to a nearby lake for their ceremony. We had expected it to be cold – it was February up in the mountains, after all – but maybe not quite as cold as it ended up being…but man was it a magical morning. It even started snowing a little as they shared their first look. Plus, we always come prepared! Everyone bundled up and we handed out handwarmers to their guests, then headed to the edge of the snowy lake where Martine’s dad led the sweetest wedding ceremony.
Afterward, we spent the afternoon getting lunch (and tequila shots) with the couple and their guests, then spent the evening wandering around the town of Leavenworth, admiring the lights, walking along the river, and just generally documenting everyone having the best day ever.
Winter wedding dreams, right?
